First UK black female career envoy to be high commissioner

THE FIRST British black female career diplomat has been appointed to the role of high commissioner.

NneNne Iwuji-Eme will takeover from the Republic of Mozambique's current high commissioner, Joanna Kuenssberg. She will start her new role in July.

Iwuji-Eme has spent 16 years in the UK foreign office, working across a variety of roles including economic adviser for Africa and chief press officer to the Africa minister. She has also worked as an economist in Defra and for Royal Dutch Shell.

The Voice’s Leah Sinclair spoke exclusively with Iwuji-Eme about her new role, the significance of her appointment and her expectations.
