Former Footballer Clarke Carlisle Missing

CONCERN: Carlisle made more than 500 appearances for nine clubs during his 16-year career

THE FAMILY of ex-Premier League star Clarke Carlisle are concerned for his welfare, after being unable to locate his whereabouts.

Wife Carrie tweeted: "#Missing Clarke's last known whereabouts was Manchester City Centre at 6am. If you see him please get in touch."

The 37 year-old father of-three was last seen wearing a black jacket, a black T-shirt, blue jeans and Nike trainers.

Lancashire Police stated that they are "extremely concerned" about him.

Carlisle, who remarried earlier this year, played for multiple teams during his career including Burnley, Queens Park Rangers and Leeds United. He is also chairman of The Professional Footballers' Association.

Born in Preston, Manchester, Carlisle has previously been open about his battle with depression over the last five years. He spent six weeks in a psychiatric unit after colliding with a lorry in 2014.

The former Burnley defender recently told the BBC that, through the assistance of counsellors, psychiatrists and family members, "the worst of his mental health problems" were behind him but there were still "bad days".

He launched a mental health charity in 2015, the Clarke Carlisle Foundation for Dual Diagnosis, and is due to speak at a mental health awareness evening in the West Midlands next week.

UPDATE: Clarke Carlisle has been found safe and well in #Liverpool, police confirm.
