Frimpong makes his choice

ARSENAL MIDFIELDER Emmanuel Frimpong has chosen to represent Ghana rather than England at senior international level. Earlier this year Frimpong said: "If Ghana call me, I will ride my own bicycle from England to Ghana." He has been true to his word.

Reports suggest that the tough tackling Frimpong told Kwesi Nyantakyi, the Ghana Football Association president, of his decision just after Ghana were beaten 1-0 by Brazil last night at Fulham’s Craven Cottage ground.

A delighted Nyantakyi told the Guardian: "Yesterday we met him after the game at Fulham at a hotel. He wants to play for Ghana. We have to apply to Fifa now – send them the documentation and wait.

“It is out of my hands how long they will take, but with my experience [of these matters] I expect no longer than three months and it will probably be shorter than that."

Frimpong's decision is a blow for England. The 19-year-old, who was born in Kumasi, Ghana's second city, played for the England Under-16 and Under-17 sides, before he pulled out of the England Under-21 squad named last week.
