Further arrest in ‘gang attack’

DETECTIVES INVESTIGATING the murder of 21-year old attacked and killed by a group of up to 20 men in north London have made a further arrest today (July 26).

Andrew Jaipaul was set upon in Holloway, north London last month (June 26) by a large group of men in their teens and early 20s shortly before 10.20pm. He died at the scene.

A post-mortem gave cause of death as multiple incised stab wounds.

This morning (July 26) police arrested an 18-year-old man who was taken to a north London police station and remains in custody.

Today’s arrest is sixteenth since the investigation begun. Earlier this month, a 13-year-old was arrested in connection with the murder and bailed to return in August pending further inquiries.

An incident room has opened at Barking under Detective Chief Inspector Phil Rickells, Homicide and Serious Crime Command.

Officers are keeping and open mind regarding motive at this stage.
