Get ready for jazz at Preston festival

PERFORMERS: Pine and Omar

JAZZ LOVERS of the North will be treated to a mix of exciting events in June celebrating the huge range of styles and sub-genres that Jazz music and the art of improvisation encompass.

The Preston Jazz and Improvisation Festival taking place from June 6 - 10 features an international cast, ranging across jazz, funk, soul, hip-hop and more. And in a fitting finale to the festival organisers are proud to welcome Courtney Pine as their headline act.

Standing out as a true trailblazer in the British jazz community, Pine embodies the dramatic transformation of UK jazz over the past three decades. His revolutionary, multi-instrument talent has inspired a new generation of musicians to broaden their own styles, bringing jazz to wider and more diverse audiences.

Winner of a Mercury Music Prize and Gold Badge Award, and now honoured with an OBE and CBE for services to music, with 16 studio albums to his credit, Pine continues to tour the globe with his award-winning band.

His Black Notes From The Deep was released to critical acclaim in 2017, featuring guest vocals from Omar bringing together two of the UK’s finest jazz and soul talents.

Pine and Omar, will perform on Sunday, June 10 from 7pm - 11pm at 53 Degrees in Preston. Tickets can be purchased at eventbrite.com.

In a bid to promote rising young talent, support comes from Leeds College of Music alumni J Frisco. Championed by the pioneering Jazz North Introduces, this all female free experimental trio includes Jemma Fresse on keyboards, saxophonist Lara Jones and guitarist Megan Roe.
