Hackney Carnival returns

IT'S BACK: Hackney Carnival

FEATHERS, GLITZ and fabulous dance routines are set to return to the borough’s streets on Sunday 10 September with the return of the Hackney One Carnival.

As well as spectacular costumes and energetic dancing at the Council run event, there will be sound systems and live music from around the world as Hackney takes centre stage for an all-day Carnival extravaganza.

Hundreds of performers will take to the streets, with a procession weaving through the borough to cheers from Hackney’s local residents, all celebrating the borough’s thriving culture, creativity and community cohesion.

There will also be an all-day children’s play area in Gillett Square and another in Hackney Town Hall Square from 12-4pm, as well as a carnival finale party at Ridley Road and Gillett Square featuring global foods, arts and music.

Schools and community groups will be involved in creating vibrant carnival decorations which will transform parts of the route into a riot of colour.

Pax Nindi, founder of the Global Carnival Centre and Creative Director of the Hackney One Carnival said: “Hackney’s carnival is special because it comes directly from the Hackney community, it has a lovely communal feel, everyone gets involved from young to old."

"As well as an amazing variety of costumes and music to get everyone dancing, the carnival brings everyone together to celebrate what is great about Hackney and have fun!”
