Hidden Figures film launches a contest for young women

HIDDEN FIGURES, which stars Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monae, is an inspirational movie which tells the story of an extraordinary young Black mathematics genius, who worked with her two colleagues to develop calculations that helped engineer John Glen make history as the first American astronaut to make a complete orbit of the earth.

The true story will be released in January 2017, and ahead of its release, 21st Century Fox has teamed up with PepsiCo to launch The "Search For Hidden Figures" scholarship program.

As an effort to provide funding opportunities for young women with an interest in pursing careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), the contest aims to inspire as many young women as possible to strive for greatness through the scholarship.

Speaking on the scholarship program, Mehmood Khan, PepsiCo's Vice Chairman and Chief Scientific Officer, Global Research and Development said: ""PepsiCo is incredibly proud to work with 21st Century Fox and the New York Academy of Sciences to shine a light on women and girls doing outstanding but unheralded work in science, technology, engineering and math."
