'I’m ashamed of the Government'

RESIGNATION: Mr Eniola

A FORMER Tory Councillor, who said he was disappointed by his party’s politics, announced his resignation yesterday ([July 14).

Francis Eniola, accused the Conservative Party of not “looking after” poor and vulnerable people, according to reports.

The 70-year-old, who previously caused controversy when he left the Labour party to join the Tories in 2009 over claims they ignored black and Asian members of his former Welsh constitution, also announced that he hopes to rejoin the Labour party.

Mr Eniola told London24.com: “I feel ashamed and disappointed by the government.”

“They promised to look after old people and to ensure they would care for them in their homes and now they are doing the opposite.

“This government does not look after the most vulnerable people especially those who are poor,” he said.

“I made a mistake. I was wrong to leave the Labour Party. I have spoken to my colleagues in the Conservative Party and they respect my decision,” he added.

Cllr Ann John, the leader of Brent Labour Group, told The Times: “If he [Mr Eniola] wants to rejoin the Labour Party he will have to approach us and explain why.”
