CHELSEA LOANEE Fikayo Tomori could be key to Derby’s ambitions this season.

The youngster impressed again as Frank Lampard’s team saw off Ipswich Town 2-0 at Pride Park.

Tomori had started Derby’s last three matches at centre back since Curtis Davies was ruled out with a hamstring injury after the Rams first game of the season against Reading and Lampard was happy with how the youngster performed.

Lampard said: “I’ve been impressed with him [Tomori] since he’s been here, and I thought today he was fantastic.”

“He stood up to an Ipswich striker that wanted to pin him and wanted to rile him on the physical side and Tomori’s stood up to that. We know he’s quick, but he didn’t just rely on his pace today I thought he was fantastic, physical, speed of recovery and very good on the ball, confident on the ball.”

Tomori, was helped by a toothless display from Ipswich in a match with few chances for either side. Lampard was happy to see his side pick up the three points after two losses on the spin in the league and thought his side deserved the victory.

“I thought we played very well, we kept moving the ball very well with patience, with quality and we deserved I think the reward of
deflected goals.

“I like the way we played, we just needed more up top, more crosses into the box, more shots in and around the box and they
came.”
