Inquest jury visits Mark Duggan shooting scene

DEATH SCENE: An image from footage of armed officers around Mark Duggan at Ferry Lane where he was shot dead

THE JURY of the inquest into the death of Mark Duggan will be visiting the scene of his killing in North London today.

Duggan, 29, was fatally shot by officers in Ferry Lane, Tottenham on August 4, 2011, sparking riots across London and in other parts of the country that summer.

Armed officers from the Trident Gang Crime Command halted a minicab Duggan was travelling in, before opening fire on him.

The Tottenham resident suffered wounds to the bicep and chest, with the latter killing him after the bullet pierced through his heart.

The inquest, held at the Royal Courts of Justice and expected to last eight weeks, aims to determine the circumstances that led to the shooting.

Proceedings, that began on Monday (September 16), aim to establish the truth and circumstances that led up to Duggan's death at the hands of police.
