It’s official: Obama in charge for four more years

I SWEAR: Barack Obama takes the oath

US PRESIDENT Barack Obama was today (January 21) sworn in for a second term at a televised inauguration.

Obama was officially inaugurated at a small ceremony at the White House in Washington DC on January 20 and again today, where he repeated the oath, which states he will work "to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

A jubilant Obama, 51, recited the oath whilst placing one hand on a bible belonging to First Lady Michelle Obama’s family and the other hand on his heart.

After the televised inauguration took place, Obama kissed Michelle and their daughters, Sasha and Malia, and said: “"I did it."

Following the inauguration, it is tradition for celebrations to take place.

Celebrity musicians, such as Beyoncé and Usher, are expected to perform at a special showcase to celebrate the landmark.
