JAMAICAN PROPERTY: Advice on buying will be given in magazine and at event

A FREE expo and magazine aimed at helping overseas-based Jamaicans and other UK residents find investment, retirement and holiday properties in Jamaica are to launched at the end of July.

Jamaica Property Magazine Ltd will be launching its new glossy magazine at the Jamaica Property Magazine Launch and Expo on July 30, at the Lambeth Town Hall in Brixton, south London.

The event, which runs from 11:00am to 8:00pm, will allow people to meet face-to-face with developers from Jamaica and have access to a wide range of services including conveyance, mortgage, travel and shipping.

They will also be able to get information on applying for a Taxpayers Registration Number (TRN) and making National Housing Trust (NHT) contribution from the UK.

The 72-page Jamaica Property Magazine, which will be on sale at the event, will offer 200 properties from all of Jamaica’s 14 parishes to promote Jamaica’s property market and encourage UK residents to invest.

Tamoy Carter, director of Jamaica Property Magazine Ltd, explained: “We believe that Jamaica is not only a beautiful island, but it also has one of the most lucrative real estate markets compared to many other countries and this is why we are so proud to be showcasing Jamaica to the UK.”

The event is being supported by sponsor Transpakship International Ltd and the Jamaica Tourist Board.

It really is sad how Jamaicans are their worst enemies. Not as described in some comments but how they're so happy to give alarmist views without proof or thought for the consequences. the original commentator raises all sorts of scare tactics but is clearly doing business in this country of murderers & barbarians. Just don't you go cos it leaves the field open for s/he. Don't trust anyone in Ja but there are 'decent Ja'cans' trying to make a diff. Wonder if s/he incl themself in the untrustworthy group, I think yes. In which case, the comments are nullified. Murder happens everywhere, tourist/expats are Killed in Spain, e.g., gruesome beheading of English woman in a shop; Two young men shot to death in Florida; Death in Colombia, Mexico, etc. In UK two students murdered & home burned with them inside; Leroy Belfield's killing spree...we can go on. Ja has many problems, all that cld be solved with Political will but the majority of Ja'cans rich &poor are great ppl just as ppl in UK &other Caribbean Islands.

Should overseas Jamaicans return - not return to Jamaica

Don't get carried away by love of country and personal sentiments. No one knows jamaica better than I do. I belong to a family of the greatest and lowest of Jamaicans in all walks of life. From PM Donald Sangster, Alfred Sangster of CAST fame, the greatest of Jamaican bankers and investors to entertainers to beggars. I know Jamaica inside-out.

So is the current Jamaican climate healthy and what about the future. As a patriotic Jamaican my heart bleads for my beloved country, torn apart by lawlessness, disorder, donmanship, a culture of coveteousness, badmindedness barbarianis. You name it. The problem is that most Jamaicans below 55 years of age think that the country is Hollywood USA. We are too greedy, want to live in luxury - at any cost and are our neighbours worst enemy.

Our politicians and political and justice systems cannot be trusted and the security forces are institutionally corrupt. individually we may be successful but collectively we are a weak nation, oftentimes retreating under pressure.

ut there are positives also. Many of our althletes and some musicians are good role models to young people and many ordinary decent Jamaicans including some devout church members are trying to make a positive difference.

Personally I trust no one in Jamaica. I don't do business through agents or agencies. My philosophy is to transact business directly - in person up-front. So I travel to the island frequently to analyse the political, social, economic, legal and technological sphere. I am a futuristic thinker and planner and I do not allow anyone to seduce or indoctrinate me. I AM RATIONAL NOT EMOTIONAL and I know that 'one man's meat is another man's poison'

Mi gone Walk good.

sorry have to disagree with you on this - there is good and bad everywhere and it wouldn't put me off from going. My mum and dad retired there 15 years ago and have had no regrets at all about going back and have never been seen as outsiders at all. To be honest it is also how some of us who have been abroad for a long time, go back to their homelands, looking down their noses at the locals and can behave as if they are better and that isn't good either - living and working overseas doesn't necessarily make you a better person than the one who chose not to leave the island.

People are getting killed

People are getting killed even here in the UK and in other countries around the world. Why are you trying to paint a bad picture of our country. With what is going on here in the UK, we are seen as bigger outsiders. I really don't like your style of writing, "murdered by the locals". Jamaica is one of the best places on earth to live or visit.

I would be careful. I know someone who settled back there and was murdered by the locals. It not safe even for former jamaicans. You are seen as an outsider.
