UNDER SCRUTINY: Steve Mullings

JAMAICA’S World Championship plans were rocked with the news that sprinter Steve Mullings has tested positive for a banned substance for the second time in his career.

Mullings has the third fastest time this season for the 100 metres (9.80 sec) and the season's fifth best time for the 200m (20.11 sec).

With the championships set to start in Daegu, South Korea at the end of the month, Mullings’ ability to compete in both the 100m and 200m is in jeopardy after reports which claim he tested positive for a masking agent at the Jamaican national championships at the end of June.

If confirmed, the test could bring an end to the career of Mullings, who served a two-year ban for doping from 2004 to 2006.

Mullings, 28, has a world title from 2009 when he helped the men's Jamaican 4x100m relay team to victory in Berlin.

I'm really worried that Usain was using drugs, and has had to stop, which would explain a marked drop in performance. He's made his money now, so maybe he's stopped rather than ruin his legacy.
