Jamelia: 'I hate Valentine’s Day!'

ANTI-VALENTINE’S: Jamelia

LOVE MAY well be in the air today, but Jamelia says she hates Valentine’s Day!

The Loose Women panelist feels that couples being forced into buying cards and romantic gifts on February 14 is unnecessary commercialism and says that love should be displayed all year round.

“I hate Valentine’s Day,” the 33-year-old told The Voice. “For me, it’s not about whether or not you’re in a relationship, to me, it’s kind of forcing people to tell each other ‘ooh, I love you.’

“I’m like, ‘if you love me, tell me every other day of the year, not because someone has decided we should give a card on this day!’ I really have no interest in Valentine’s Day, you know, you go to a restaurant and everyone’s forcibly there, or forcibly proposing.

“Honestly, if a man ever proposed to me on Valentine’s Day, he would definitely get turned down,” laughed the singer turned talk show host. “It’s complete commercialism and I don’t support it at all. I’m anti-Valentine’s Day!”

However, the mother-of-two, who is currently single, says she’s ready to find love again, having spent time accepting her own flaws.

“I’ve been single for a few years now and my attitude has never changed towards men. I’ve never been the type of woman who judges every man on one man’s actions. I definitely would say that I am ready for a relationship but I feel you have to be accepting of your own flaws first.

“I’ve really spent a lot of time getting to know myself – I know that sounds so cliché! But I genuinely believe it’s important to know who you are and what you want in a relationship.”

She adds: “Now, I’d be more than happy to make demands and to say, ‘these are my standards and if it’s anything below, then it’s not happening.’ If that means I’ve gotta sit down on my own for the next 10 years then so be it… but I hope I don’t!”
