Jesse Jackson opens up about son's bipolar "struggle"

CONCERNS: Rev Jesse Jackson

THE REV Jesse Jackson has opened up about his son's recent battle with bipolar disorder.

In a statement made to the Chicago Tribune the black activist admitted that Jesse Jackson Jr, who is said to be under strict medical supervision, was "struggling" with the mental health disorder.

He said: "He is struggling with the highs and lows of his bipolar disorder. Please pray for him, Sandi and their children."

Earlier this year federal prosecutors formally filed charges against Jackson Jr over alleged misuse of $750,000 worth of campaign funds. His wife Sandi was also charged with filing "six years of false tax returns".

If convicted Jackson Jr could spend up to five years, however his wife may be a custodial sentence in order to care for their two young children.

Both are expected to take plea deals in the case.
