JLS star to help MS charity

DONATION: Oriste Williams

JLS STAR Oriste Williams will put some of his prized possessions up for auction to raise money for a multiple sclerosis (MS) charity.

The singer, whose mother was diagnosed with MS when he was 12, has donated a hat he wore on ITV1’s X Factor, the show that launched his mainstream music career, and his favourite Michael Jackson t-shirt at the MS Society auction on August 5.

He told The Sun: “I was only 12 when Mum was diagnosed with MS. I felt scared and alone because I never really knew what it was or how it would impact our lives”

“I was the oldest and soon became the man of the house and my mum's carer. I also had to take care of my two brothers and little sister who at the time were three.

“I grew up fast, but I had to get on with it, just like every one of the 175,000 young carers in the UK today,” he said.

The teen heartthrob says he wishes to raise awareness and money for sufferers of MS, which affects the ability of their nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord to communicate with each other, because he knows firsthand what it is like growing up with someone who is living with the disease.

“I am auctioning off some of my prized possessions to help them continue their great work,” he added.
