Just the ticket for Denise

DELIGHTED: Lewis

FORMER OLYMPIC champion Denise Lewis has expressed her delight at the news that the first ever Aviva Birmingham Grand Prix at the Alexander Stadium on July 10 has sold out, and has urged sports fans in the Midlands not to miss out on a new UKA initiative which will guarantee them tickets to see athletics in 2012.

This Sunday’s event– part of the prestigious Samsung Diamond League – will see the world’s best athletes arrive in the West Midlands on the ninth stop of the global competition.

British stars Mo Farah, Phillips Idowu, Christine Ohuruogu and Dai Greene will be joined by Jamaica’s sprint star Asafa Powell.

But for fans who have missed out, UKA has opened a registration window for tickets to next year’s athletics events at Alexander Stadium. The ‘guarantee your ticket’ scheme will allow fans to secure tickets to either of the Aviva Series meetings being held in Birmingham in 2012 and will place them first in line for any return tickets to next month’s event.

Lewis, who will be right amongst the action on July 10 as part of the live BBC presentation team, said the demand for tickets was testament to the sporting passion of the West Midlands public.

The West Bromwich-born former heptathlete said: “To have the Samsung Diamond League come to Birmingham is fantastic for both the sport and the region. I’m really proud of my Birmingham roots and it’s no surprise to me that the event has already sold out.

Fans can apply for the 2012 Aviva Series ‘guarantee your ticket’ scheme and return tickets at www.uka.org.uk/registration.
