Kelle Bryan lands Hollyoaks role after major health scare

STROKE SURVIVOR: Actress and singer Kelle Bryan will join the Hollyoaks cast later this month

ETERNAL SINGER Kelle Bryan is set to appear in Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks following a serious stroke that meant she had to learn how to walk and talk again.

Bryan, who has recently joined the cast of Hollyoaks, disclosed the details of her previous health struggles in an interview with The Sun.

She told the paper: "I had an infection and then a stroke and everything else all in the one year.”

The star, who has lupus, an incurable autoimmune disease that causes inflammation of the joints, skin and other organs, said her everything “shut down”.

"With Lupus, the disease caused swelling on my brain. And because it was on my brain everything shut down, as it would with any kind of brain damage.

"I lost my speech, I couldn't speak or walk. I lost it all. All the neurological things, so walking, talking, even things like reading and writing, I couldn't write my own name, I couldn't even text.”

Bryan had to undergo a scan on her brain so that doctors could determine the damage.

The 43-year-old said that she even found spelling a challenge after her ordeal.

The actress is set to play the sister of Simone Loveday in the soap from this month.

Due to her illness, she missed out on the opportunity to take up the role of another character that she was offered two years ago.

Her character, an air hostess, is reported to turn things upside down on the show but Bryan is happy that her real life is returning to normality.

"It means so much more, getting a new job is great and landing a new role is amazing, but because of my journey and what I've been through, just to be here two years later is like [screams with joy].

"It's crazy, it's absolutely crazy,” she told The Sun.
