Kobe Bryant surpasses Michael Jordan's NBA scoring record

DOUBLE LEGENDS: Bryant, left, and Jordan (PA)

LEGENDARY BASKETBALL player Kobe Bryant has managed to pip Michael Jordan's monumental NBA scoring record to reach third place on the all-time list.

After starting the game needing nine points to eclipse Jordan, his idol and arguably the greatest player of all time, Bryant was able to do so with two free throws in the second quarter of the game.

The 36-year-old went on to score 26 points in a 100-94 victory for the LA Lakers against the Minnesota Timberwolves taking his overall tally to 32,310 points.

Bryant spoke of the influence and inspiration he has taken from Jordan.

"I try to learn so much from him in particular", Bryant said.

"He’s been a huge part of my success and my career in giving me advice. The relationship has meant everything to me."

His achievement leaves Bryant, in his 19th season, behind only Karl Malone (36,298 points) and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (38,387 points) in the all-time list.

The Lakers icon added: "It’s a huge honour it’s been such a long journey.

"It’s gone by really fast; it feels great to be at this point".
