Kyle Walker speaks on World Cup: "I didn't want it to end"

SENSATIONAL: Kyle Walker helped take England’s national squad further than expected, soon after Manchester City won the Premier League

ENGLAND DEFENDER Kyle Walker has admitted that he didn’t want the country’s
unexpected World Cup journey to end.

The Three Lions progressed to the semi-finals of the summer tournament and all this after they headed to Russia with seemingly no expectancy at all.

PRESSURE

Gareth Southgate’s men were knocked out in the semi- finals by Croatia, but Walker confessed: “When you are buzzing like we were, you never want it to end.”

Walker, who was an unused substitute in England’s 2-1 defeat against Spain in a UEFA Nations League fixture at Wembley on September 8, explained the mood of the squad in Russia.

“For the outside world looking in, perhaps the expectations weren’t so high. That meant that the pressure was off and it gave us the chance to go out there and really attack the tournament.

“We said before that our main objective was to make the England fans fall back in love with the team, because without them, we’re really nothing.

"It was great to see all the videos and pictures from back home as the tournament progressed and along with those brilliant fans who were out in Russia, it all made the tournament an even better experience.”
