Leeds mental health charity advises people to switch off TV

MENTAL HEALTH CHARITY Touchstone, who happen to be number eight in the prestigious Sunday Times 100 Best Not for Profit Organisations to Work For 2016, are offering tips on how to process the recent wave of tragic news stories to hit UK media.

Touchstone’s Operations Director Arfan Hanif said:

“Within seconds of a violent event we are bombarded with images on our phones and television, while social media will be saturated with hundreds of views and opinions. No wonder we all get anxious.

“If we’d had today's vast uncontrolled media during both World Wars, and we were exposed to constant images of atrocities, then we may have had mass hysteria.

“The simple answer is to switch it off.”

The organisation has also been advising people who are suffering from symptoms of anxiety after consuming news about terror attacks and atrocities, to surround themselves with “positive and compassionate people”.
