Let’s talk about sex

GUILTY PLEASURE?: many people feel uncomfortable discussing sex

LET’S NOT just talk about sex, let’s laugh about it too – because according to UK comedian Kat B, the subject provides plenty of comic material.

He’s not alone in his thinking; a whole host of Britain’s funniest comics are taking to the stage to explore love, sex and relationships in the upcoming show SeX-factor.

Alongside host Kat, comedians Axel, Kane Brown, Kevin J, Glenda Jaxson, Slim, Eddie Nestor and Robbie Gee will also be celebrating the naughty pastime. Kat revealed why he is dedicating a whole show to relationships.

“Why sex? Why not? It’s one of the taboo subjects; people hardly talk about it out in public but they want to know about it,” he says. “As opposed to going on the internet, why not just catch some joke amongst other people? It’s almost like therapy.”

On his comedic travels, the self-confessed love guru has amassed enough knowledge to write a book on sex. In fact, he did just that, penning a provocatively titled guide to relationships.

“I’ve been going around collecting data and research, and have compiled a book called How To Treat your Woman – but the ‘t’ and the ‘r’ [at the beginning of ‘treat’] are scribbled out.”

Take a second to get that one (and then laugh or cringe, as you see fit!)

Of SeX-factor, Kat added: “I will be covering as much as I can about sex. I will even let people ask questions about certain things and I will give them the answer before the end of the night. My act is going to be completely off the top of my head on the night, so whatever happens, happens.”

Whilst Kat says he’s happy to offers tips on the way to a woman’s heart, he doesn’t think this event will serve as a substitute for actual relationship counseling, but rather as a remedy to possible ailments.

PROVIDING THE LAUGHS: (l-r) Kane Brown, Robbie Gee, Eddie Nestor and Glenda Jaxson will talk sex on the night

“Comedy is like medicine and everybody needs to take their medicine. If people are happy laughing and learning, they will take in the information easier.”

With sex being an issue that often makes even the most experienced adults blush, Kat admits that this show is not for the prudish or the faint hearted.

“It’s definitely not for people who don’t want to enjoy themselves,” says the former Choice FM presenter. “If you don’t want to have a good time hearing comedians discuss sex, don’t waste your money.”

One aspect of the show that doesn’t seem to fit with the night’s theme of naughty comedy is hair products. Nonetheless, the event will offer hair care products, completely free of charge. Erm… why?

“Some girls like free hair care products, because they like to wake up in the morning and look like they are out of some film – when really, they got up two hours before their man and fixed up themselves and got back into bed.

“There’s a recession on so I know some women will want that free hair care. Maybe we should throw in some cocoa butter for the guys as well,” laughed the comic.

Despite the taboo nature of the event, Kat believes that SeX-factor will provide plenty of laughs for audiences willing to give it a go.

“Sex is nothing to be scared of. It’s just a word. And if you’ve had some bad sex, come and have some good sex comedy.”

SeX-factor is at Hackney Empire, Mare Street, London E8 on February 25. For more information, visit www.hackneyempire.co.uk
