Let off for cops strikes blow for Burrell family

NO JUSTICE: Kadisha Brown Burrell angry that no one has been disciplined over her brother’s death

THE FAMILY of Kingsley Burrell have been left reeling by news that the police officers, at the centre of a probe into his death, have still not been suspended nearly four months on.

This is the third blow for the family. They not only lost the father of two following contact with the police on March 31, but the family home was burgled just two days before Kingsley would have turned 30.

“His children have been left without a father” said his sister Kadisha Brown-Burrell “My brother wasn’t here to celebrate his birthday and those responsible work as normal like nothing’s happened. It’s taken far too long for the police to reach a conclusion. Kingsley has still not been buried.”

West Midlands Police confirmed last week that no officers have been suspended in the Kingsley Burrell case.

Burrell, from Birmingham, died just two weeks after the controversial death of reggae singer Smiley Culture during a police raid. Nearly two months later, Demetre Fraser, 21, also died following contact with police officers.

Demetre’s mother, Jossette Fraser rejected police claims that he jumped or fell from an 11th floor Tower Block in Birmingham.

Police watchdog, the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC), is probing all three cases.

Earlier this month, more than 1000 people marched through Birmingham’s busiest streets calling for an end to deaths in custody and for those responsible to be held accountable.
