Liverpool boss says Sturridge may be best striker in Europe

DANIEL STURRIDGE has the natural ability to make it as one of the game’s best strikers, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers believes.

The 24-year-old hitman has been in fine form for the Merseyside club since his £12m move from Chelsea in January, and his coach thinks he will go on to be a leading star.

Sturridge has enjoyed an incredible start to the new season, netting nine goals in ten appearances, and Rodgers told talkSPORT: “He’s been brilliant, he’s come here in January with a point to prove.

"He’s very hungry and his goals-per-game ratio has been remarkable.”

The Northern Irishman added: “Daniel’s a player who produces.

“He’s a natural goalscorer, but he’s got so many other things to his game, pace, power and great feet.

“I think in the next few years he could be one of the top strikers in Europe.”

Sturridge emerged as a highly rated talent at Manchester City, before he chose to move to Chelsea seeking more regular playing time. But his time in west London was mainly limited to substitute appearances as he failed to command a first-team place with the Blues.

Former Chelsea bosses Andre Villas-Boas, Roberto Di Matteo and Rafa Benitez often overlooked him, and it now seems Sturridge has finally found himself a side in Liverpool that truly appreciates his mercurial talent.
