NEW TEAM: Kolo Toure, left, has signed for Liverpool (PA)
IVORIAN INTERNATIONAL Kolo Toure has been confirmed as the latest Liverpool signing.
The 32-year-old completed the move today from Manchester City, the club he joined in 2009 for £14m.
He signed a two-year contract with the Reds after making 102 appearances for City, helping them win the Premier League in the 2011-12 season.
Liverpool’s hierarchy earmarked Toure as a ready-made replacement for the retired Jamie Carragher, who quit the game at the end of last season.
Speaking about the move, Toure told Liverpool’s official website: “This means a lot to me. Firstly, I'm joining one of the best clubs in England.
“When I left City it was important for me to stay in England because it's the best league - and to join Liverpool is massive for me.
“I chose Liverpool because of the history and because of the spirit of the team and the people here.”
