Looking to light up a life this Christmas

FAMILY AFFAIR: The Light up a Life celebration

FAMILIES IN Birmingham are being invited to share in the joy of Christmas in memory of loved ones at John Taylor Hospice’s ‘Light up a Life’ celebration.

The annual event in Erdington town centre on December 16 sees people coming together in front of a tree filled with lights – each one symbolising loved ones who have died.

Around 150 families joined in last year’s ‘Light up a Life’ celebration and organisers at the hospice are hoping this year’s event will attract even greater numbers.

Families are also invited to dedicate a light to their loved ones and include their names in a special book of remembrance, which is on display at ‘Light up a Life’ and then in the hospice.
The half hour celebration takes place in Central Square, Erdington, and features readings, music and poems.

“While the Christmas season is a time for celebrating and sharing it can also be the time when we remember most the people we love who we have lost,” said John Taylor Hospice CEO Kate Phipps.

“Light up a Life is a chance for people to stop, remember and reflect for a few moments. It is a time when the hospice joins with families in lighting up a tree full of lights. All of those lights are people we have loved. It is an occasion to remember someone special and let those memories shine,” she explained.

‘Light up a Life’ takes place at 6pm on December 16 at Central Square, High Street, Erdington. For more information see or contact the Hospice’s Community Investment Crew on 0121 465 2000.
