Looking to make his mark

OPPORTUNITY: Emmanuel Frimpong

ARSENAL MIDFIELDER Emmanuel Frimpong is looking to make his mark on manager Arsene Wenger during the club’s pre-season tour to Malaysia.

Frimpong looked set to claim a regular place in the Gunners first team squad last term but a serious knee injury put paid to his ambitions.

Frimpong is one of the younger members of the squad that has travelled to Asia and he knows the games in the Far East present him with a chance to play his way into Wenger’s plans ahead of the new season.

“It’s a big opportunity for me to show what I can do,” he told Arsenal.com.

“I’m here to try and get in the team and show the manager what I can do so hopefully it all goes well.

“The more time I spend on the pitch, the more confident I feel. I’m still not 100 per cent fit but that will come, I just have to be patient.”

Ghanaian-born player admits he endured a difficult period, at times fearing he may be left behind and even questioning whether he would ever return.

To add to his frustration, Frimpong had to watch from the sidelines as the north London outfit lost the Carling Cup final and then tumbled out of contention in the Barclays Premier League, FA Cup and the Champions League.
