Madame Tussauds denies lightening Beyonce's wax figure

WHO?: Beyonce waxwork at Madame Tussauds

MADAME TUSSAUDS has commented on speculation that the world-famous tourist attraction had lightened the skin of their Beyoncé waxwork.

The attraction was accused of whitewashing the statue of the superstar by fans online, after an image appeared on Twitter of the waxwork with 'white' skin.

The model, which was wearing a glittery blue playsuit and knee high boots, appeared to have pale skin and long blonde hair in the image.

Fans of the Lemonade singer described it as “melanin-defunct” while others said it bore more of a resemblance to Britney Spears, Shakira or Lindsay Lohan.

However, Madame Tussauds debunked the photo of the Beyonce waxwork, insisting the pallor of the skin was down to lighting and flash photography.

“At Madame Tussauds, our talented team of sculptors take every effort to ensure we accurately colour match all of our wax figures to the celebrity being depicted," they said in a statement.

“Lighting within the attraction combined with flash photography may distort and misrepresent the colour of our wax figures which is something our sculptors are unable to account for at the production stage.”
