Maicon leaves Man City for Roma

CITY EXIT: Maicon has signed for Roma (PA)

MANCHESTER CITY right-back Maicon will be making a permanent move to Italian team Roma.

After joining with City from Inter Milan in August 2012, on deadline transfer day, the 31-year-old failed to establish himself during his first and only season at the Etihad.

While struggling to maintain form and fitness throughout, Maicon made 13 appearances in all competitions.

It was confirmed on Manchester City’s website that the Brazilian star was moving back to Serie A.

In a statement, the club said: "Everyone at Manchester City wishes Maicon good luck at his new club."

The defender found it difficult to win a starting place with fierce competition from Pablo Zabaleta and Micah Richards for the right-back position.

It has been reported that the Brazilian was not part of new City boss Manuel Pellegrini’s plans - he was not included in the team's pre-season tour of South Africa.

Pellegrini said: "Maicon didn't come here to the pre-season and he will not be in the squad at Manchester City this year."
