He was remanded to prison and is due to reappear in court on January 31. Alleyne, 21, was murdered on Boxing Day at around 7pm, as he was walking nearby his home. According to police, he was approached by a man who shot him 'several times' before fleeing the scene.

Alleyne was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in a private vehicle, but sadly succumbed to his injuries.

A short while after the news broke, Rihanna, who spent Christmas in her native Barbados with her family, mourned the loss on Instagram. Sharing a few photos taken with her cousin whom she saw just the day before, the singer ended her message with the hashtag #endgunviolence.

Alleyne’s father and Rihanna’s uncle, Leroy Brathwaite, who was recently charged for selling fake versions of his niece’s Puma designer sports gear, has also appealed for an end to gun violence.
