SHOOTING: A man has been shot by police
A MAN IS in critical but stable condition after he was shot by police in south London yesterday.
The man, who is in his 20s, is believed to have threatened the police with a large bladed weapon when officers arrived to answer calls of reports of an attempted break in of a car in Lewisham.
The officers are said to have retreated and called for backup of the firearm unit, but were forced to use tasers and weapons to disarm the man.
London Ambulance Service are reported to have taken the man to south London hospital, where he is said to be in critical but stable condition.
The police say the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has been informed and the shooting is now being treated as an independent investigation.
Roads were closed in the area due to the incident.
Last year Mark Duggan was gunned down by officers from the Met’s specialist firearms team C019 in a pre-planned operation to arrest him on Ferry Lane, Tottenham. His death sparked violence riots in the north London borough and spread across Britain.
