Mary J. Blige nominated for an Oscar

NOMINATED: Mary J. Blige

MARY J. Blige has been nominated for an Academy Award for her performance in Mudbound.

The singer was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in the Dee Rees-directed Netflix film about two families -- one black and one white -- struggling to survive during the post-War, Jim Crow era in rural Mississippi. Blige was also nominated for Best Original Song for “Mighty River,” which she wrote and sang for the film.

Mudbound is Blige’s fifth film role since making her debut in 2001’s Prison Song.
