FRUSTRATED: Singer Mary J Blige
MARY J BLIGE has slammed the Oscar awards for not including her song in this year's ceremony, she announced on Twitter.
The No More Drama singer took to the microblogging site to vent her frustrations following the announcement of nominations on Tuesday (Jan 24).
"I'm so thankful for true fans like you all. It saddens me & feels like the Academy is being mean. 2 only nominate 2 of the 5 slots is....[sic]," she wrote.
Blige was referring to her song, Living Proof, from acclaimed film, The Help, which has been left out of the 'Best Original Song' category in this year's awards due to changes, which meant that their are now only two nominations in the category compared to the traditional five.
The Help may have lost out on best song, but scored actresses Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer and Jessica Chastain nominations in the 'Best Actress' and 'Best Supporting Actress' categories.
The movie, about the life of domestic workers living and working in segregated Mississippi at the beginning of the Civil Rights era, also earned a 'Best Picture' nod.
The 84th Academy Awards show will take place in the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles on February 26.
