Mascots proving to be a big hit!

Wenlock and Mandeville to appear in comic capers

ALREADY A hit in schools, cinemas, online and London 2012 shops, the London 2012 Olympic mascot Wenlock and Paralympic mascot Mandeville are now set to be launched into the world of publishing by featuring in a special edition of iconic British children’s comic The Beano.

Wenlock and Mandeville’s adventure will feature alongside Beano regular stories including Dennis the Menace, Minnie the Minx, The Bash Street Kids and Billy Whizz in the weekly comic, which first published in 1938.

Wenlock and Mandeville will feature in further issues of The Beano in the lead up to Games time where stories of the mascot’s journey across the UK learning different sports in time for the Olympic and Paralympic Games will feature.

Lord Sebastian Coe said: “This is another exciting way to bring the mascots’ experiences of meeting new people and trying new sports to millions of young people across the UK. This is a creative way to engage children in the Olympic and Paralympic values.”

The London 2012 mascots have been busy inspiring young people in many different ways since they were launched in 2010.

Since Wenlock and Mandeville’s launched their new online ‘make your mascot’ customiser children have made over 19,000 versions of the mascots.

New mascot games have been released on during the lead up to the Games. More online games are set to launch this autumn including a mascot music maker game featuring a mascot song.

London 2012 has also announced the 12 student winners that will have their regionally-inspired versions of the Olympic and Paralympic mascots turned into a pin badge for sale this autumn at the London 2012 shop.
