Meet the Adebanjos to hit east London stage

BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND: Meet the Adebanjos

SMASH HIT family TV sitcom Meet the Adebanjos is set to take the stage at the Hackney Empire for two live shows.

The award-winning series, which follows the story of traditional old-fashioned Nigerian dad struggling to cope with his ‘dysfunctional extended family’, will showcase at the famed venue after a successful run of performances at the Catford theatre.

The shows will star all the original cast, including British YouTube sensation 'Don’t Jealous Me', who’s infamous comedy sketches went viral racking up an astounding 25 million views.

Meet the Adebanjos' accomplishments come after the show's creator spent years pitching the show to the BBC unsuccessfully, before deciding to put the series online where it gained '1 million' regular viewers.

Speaking after the show's launch one of the show’s producers, former City trader Andrew Osayemi, told The Voice: “We’ve been working on the show for a year and a half now. We secured loans from private investors after finally convincing people for two months that this was something worthwhile backing."

The feedback we’ve had already has been remarkable,” he said. “It’s been 99 per cent positive. We’ve had TV stations in Africa and the Caribbean begging to pick it up. We also want to let the UK’s TV establishment know that the market for black British TV is strong, vibrant and hungry for content that speaks to the unique experience of migrants from the African Diaspora.”

Meet the Adebanjos will be at the Hackney Empire on November 2nd and 3rd.
