Meet the woman who has turned down 14 marriage proposals

A MOTHER-OF-FOUR from Norbury in south London says she has turned down marriage proposals from over 14 men because none of them meet her extensive list of essential requirements.

Nursery manager Sonia Poleon, 52, has compiled a list of at least 25 must-have qualities for a potential suitor, but is yet to find a man who embodies them all.

Speaking to the Evening Standard, Ms Poleon, who divorced her husband after 21 years together, added that her Christian beliefs meant she was not prepared to have sex before marriage.

She said: "I have got a long list of what I am looking for. I want somebody who has already got their own career carved out. They must be single and they must be sane."

"I am not going to marry someone who does not know where they're going. I have a plan and that person must be goal-orientated."

Some of the qualities to make it top the top of Ms Poleon's list include single, sane, successful and sexy - but she would not reveal an entire run-down of her must-haves.

Ms Poleon, manager of Little Saints Day nursery in Thornton Heath, revealed full details of the proposals in an earlier interview with LBC's James O'Brien yesterday (Feb 11) ahead of Valentine's Day this weekend.

She said: "I've been proposed to 14 times and I've said no 14 times. I've turned them all down. They're not suitors that I'm looking for."

O'Brien replied: "They wouldn't just propose to you out of nowhere. They wouldn't just stop you in the street, do they? You must've gone out with them. I'm confused, frankly Sonia."

She responded: "I didn't have 14 relationships with them, these are people I've had friendships with and over a while, they've thought 'she seems like a good person, let me propose to her'".
