Men dress up as Trayvon Martin and Zimmerman for Halloween

SHOCKING TASTE: William Filene, left, Caitlin Cimeno, centre, and Greg Cimeno

SOCIAL MEDIA users were left shocked by two men from Florida for having the nerve to dress up as Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman for Halloween and upload the images on Facebook.

William Filene, 25, and Greg Cimeno, 22, wore costumes indicating they were the killed teenager and the man who shot him dead.

Posted on Friday night (October 25), the pictures show Filene blacking up his face to impersonate Trayvon – the 17-year-old was gunned down in February 2012 by Zimmerman, who claimed he shot in self-defence.

Filene also has an imitation blood splatter mark in his chest to depict the gunshot wound that ended Trayvon’s life.

Cimeno is seen wearing a black T-shirt saying “neighborhood watch”, a clear indication is portraying Zimmerman, who was acquitted in July of murdering the black Florida teenager, because his legal team successfully argued the “stand your ground law” supported his version of events when he killed the unarmed Trayvon, despite police warning Zimmerman to stay away.

In the controversial Facebook image, the pair pose with another woman, called Caitlin Cimeno, who stands in between the pair while Cimeno makes a gun gesture with his hand.

US media reports indicate the men live in Cape Coral, Florida, and Ms Cimeno lives in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts.

The series of images of them dressed as Trayvon and Zimmerman attracted an angry backlash from social media users on Facebook and Twitter, but Cinemo commented: “Not too funny. It’s f**king hilarious!!!”

Trayvon’s death and Zimmerman’s acquittal generated widespread protests across the US and world, and campaigners said it highlighted flaws in the legal systems concerning race.
