Milan's Kevin Constant walks off after 'racist abuse'

IN PLAY: Kevin Constant walked off the pitch after alleging he was racially abused (PA)

AC MILAN midfielder Kevin Constant decided to walk off the pitch in response to alleged racist abuse during a pre-season tournament match against fellow Serie A side Sassuolo on Tuesday (July 23).

The 26-year-old Guinea International player kicked the ball into the crowd before he left the pitch in the 34th minute.

After Milan sent on a substitute to replace Constant, there was a threat to stop the game if any further incidents were to occur.

The Italian Football Federation has announced an immediate inquiry.

A similar incident occurred back in January when a friendly was called off because of racist chanting.

Milan’s Kevin-Prince Boateng also kicked the ball into the crowd in that match, before removing his shirt and walking off. Both teams' players and authorities followed the Ghana International.

In May, Fifa voted on new measures to be taken in order to stop and tackle racism.

Reprimands such as teams being relegated or expelled from competitions have been considered to punish serious cases of racism.
