HIP-HOP stars Missy Elliott and Timbaland led the tributes to late friend, R&B singer Aaliyah, on what would have been her 34th birthday.
Elliott, who regularly collaborated with Aaliyah throughout the singer's short career, posted a special message on Twitter, writing, "We miss u (you) Aaliyah! It's not a day go pass (sic) we don't think of u and how your music still have a impact (sic) on the world! RIP baby girl."
Timbaland shared a link to the music video for Aaliyah's popular sultry love song 4 Page Letter, and re-tweeted the tribute, "Happy Birthday to the beautiful Aaliyah! Our angel... Never forgotten!"

Their tweets sparked an outpouring of tributes from fans of the Try Again hitmaker. At one point 'Aaliyah' was one of the top trending topics on the social networking site.
Twitter user Dafina Zeqiri, wrote: "Today Its Aaliyah's Birthday. I grew up with her music, she Inspired me alot. She will Allways b my #1"
User Calvin De Reuck added: "Happy 34th Birthday to one of the Greatest R&B female singers - #Aaliyah. You left us way too soon. We Love and Miss you so much! R.I.P"
Brooklyn-born Aaliyah died in a plane crash in the Bahamas on August 25, 2001, when she was just 22.
