NEW MUSIC: Missy Elliott announces first single in almost a decade

MISSY ELLIOTT sent fans into a frenzy after announcing she is to release her first single in almost a decade.

The rapper and producer, who caused a social media storm when she appeared on stage with Katy Perry at this year’s Superbowl, made the announcement on Twitter on Wednesday (Nov 4) teasing fans with a the cover of her new single WTF (Where They From), featuring hit producer Pharrell.

She wrote: “Coming with that fire, bleeeeeeedat. The creative ppl out there gonna understand what it is.”

Fans and celebrities alike were quick to share their excitement online, many of which Elliott, who will release WTF (Where They From) on November 13, retweeted to her own Twitter feed.

Friend and collaborator, R&B singer Monica, wrote: “My Girl... The Legend... The Truth... Coming November 13th.... WTF where they from featuring Pharrell.... Miss you inspire me, you are and will always be the BEST to do it.”

Empire star Taraji P. Henson added: Yaaaaaaaaasssssss GOD!!! The count down beginzzzz!!!!

Last month, the star was spotted in Los Angeles, California, filming what appeared to be a new video.

TMZ obtained the footage of the 44-year-old wearing a mirror-ball inspired tracksuit dancing to an unreleased track in an alleyway.

And back in May, Missy teased fans by tweeting Pharrell writing "@pharrell WTF. They better be READY. It's outta here [sic]."

It has been ten years since Missy released an album - namely The Cookbook - and seven years since she has released a single as the lead artist. Best, Best was released in 2008.
