NEW PROJECT: Morgan Freeman to produce docuseries on the late Rodney King
MORGAN FREEMAN and producer Lori McCreary will be producing a new series that examines the life of Rodney King.
Produced by the pair’s production company, Revelations Entertainment, the series will take an in depth look at King’s life, beginning with his youth growing up with an alcoholic father to the events proceeding his 1991 beating by Los Angeles police.
The multi-part series will feature exclusive interviews with family members, attorneys and close friends Dr. Drew Pinsky and the Rev. Al Sharpton, and will include never-before-seen home video footage of King, which was filmed over a 12-year period prior to his death in 2012.
Speaking to Variety, McCreary told the website that presenting King’s life story is in line with Revelations Entertainment’s mission of exploring untold stories.
“Our company is about revealing the truth, and we thought this would be a great way to reveal the truth about who this man was,” she said. “We’ve had such a narrow view of who he was. There’s so much more to the story. I’m excited to finally be able to reveal the truth.”
“Telling this story from the perspective of people who knew him and in his own words, we’ll see a different Rodney King — a generous, intelligent, loving man,” she said.
McCreary added that they are planning on pitching the project to “A&E, Amazon, CNN, HBO and Netflix” in the coming weeks.
