Mourinho vetoed Demba Ba to Arsenal because of Mesut Ozil

SWINGS AND ROUNDABOUTS: Ozil, left, and Ba

CHELSEA REFUSED to sell Demba Ba to Arsenal because Blues manager Jose Mourinho judged their signing of Mesut Ozil has turned the Gunners into title contenders.

Mourinho managed the Germany international during his spell at Real Madrid and admitted to pulling the plug on letting the Sengalese striker go, after Wenger completed the £42.4m deal to bring Ozil to north London.

The Special One said: “There is no copy of him – not even a bad one. He is the best number 10 in the world.

"He makes things very easy for me and for his team-mates with his football vision and the decisions he makes."

Mourinho added: “Everyone loves him and sees a bit of Luis Figo and Zinedine Zidane in him.

“We didn’t accept Arsenal’s offer for Demba Ba because the signing of Ozil makes them title contenders.”

Reports suggest that Arsenal are still angered by Chelsea after they sank the Ba deal, as they looked for reinforcements up front to support Frenchman Olivier Giroud.
