Mouth-watering food festival heads to Birmingham

FOOD LOVERS: The Colmore Food Festival heads to Birmingham on July 8

A MOUTH-WATERING mix of freshly cooked food with the essential ingredients of music and art look set to make Birmingham’s Colmore Food Festival one of the tastiest events in the West Midlands this summer.

With more than 30 food stalls, cookery demonstrations and live performances, the sixth annual festival will be held in the city centre’s Victoria Square on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th July.

Java Lounge Coffee House, Philpotts, Jake’s Coffee Box and the Royal Angus Hotel will be making their debut food festival appearances, alongside Colmore District favourites such as Nosh & Quaff, Opus, Metro, Hotrl du Vin and Purecraft Bar & Kitchen.

Michelin-starred Purnell’s, owned by Glynn Purnell, who recently hosted an edition of TV’s Saturday Kitchen, will also have a stall serving delicious treats.

The festival, hosted by Colmore BID (Business Improvement District), which attracts more than 30,000 visitors, offers taster dishes at no more than £4 each, allowing visitors to try a multitude of culinary delights.

Taste palates will be alongside art palettes this year with a special exhibition from Colmore Row-based Reuben Colley Fine Art. This year’s event is sponsored by the Opus Family, which will have an Opus Garden in the heart of the festival area.

There are also two live stages – one a kitchen demo area, with the second providing a focus for bands and musicians from in and around Birmingham, creating a truly local event.

Michele Wilby, executive director of Colmore BID said: “We’re lucky to work with some fantastic partners such as University College Birmingham (UCB) and Midland Metro.

“UCB has a great relationship with the venues in the district and supplies students for placements in kitchens, bars and bakeries. The Midland Metro will offer discounted travel to and from the festival on the tram.
