Net gains for Sasha Corbin

COURT SIDE: In action for the national team

ENGLAND NETBALL star Sasha Corbin says despite losing to New Zealand in the recent Tri-Series, the team took plenty of positives from playing the number two ranked side in the world.

However, Corbin, 25, told Voice of Sport that things are looking good for the national side going forward.

“In the Jamaica game we felt we played well and attacked at every opportunity. They have a really tall shooter and we knew she would be a force, but defensively we kept it together well and were happy with the result."

She added: “With the New Zealand game we knew they were going to come out strong, they are number two in the world and we did struggle against them.”

The highly-rated Corbin explained: “They have an off-marking style which we found difficult to get through but we managed to do it with some success but not consistently enough.

“There is so much to learn and it was great to have the chance to play against them as we won't get that again until we see them at the Commonwealth Games."

Wing attack Corbin, is now looking forward to joining up with her club team, Hertfordshire Mavericks, and would not be drawn on what she expects from England at the Commonwealth Games, preferring instead to keep focused on the next challenge at hand which is her club team.

She added: "Most of us have left the England set up now and are focused on the ANZ League or the Super League.

“We'll do analysis on what we have achieved with England but it’s all about performing at club level for the near future.

Corbin, whose sister Kadeen also plays for England, said: “We've got our key performance indicators that we want to be hitting over the course of the season and if coach Anna Mayes sees anything she needs to let us know about I'm sure she will."
