New British-Ghanaian supper club from Aunty Gee's sauces

FROM HUMBLE beginnings in a home kitchen where delicious chilli sauces would be made for friends and family, mother-daughter duo, Gladys and Jacqui have made a real mark in the ever-growing 'ethnic' food industry in the UK through their creation of food brand, Aunt Gee’s.

Based in north London, Gladys, an experienced healthcare professional with a knack for cooking and Jacqui, a business graduate and city-worker, have worked tirelessly to be able to share their range of chilli sauces with the masses.

Before Aunt Gee’s, Gladys would receive praise every time she made a spicy, flavoursome sauce with dishes for family and friends. After much encouragement, Gladys and Jacqui packaged the sauces, applied for a pitch at Chapel St. Market and Cally Market in Islington - the Aunt Gee’s sauce empire was born.

Made with high-quality ingredients (such as herring and prawn) and true culinary skill, the sauces quickly gained a following, which prompted the team to expand into other popular markets including the Old Spitalfields market near Brick Lane. The team also found a core of fans at the offices of renowned law firm, Linklaters.

The Aunt Gee’s sauce range also expanded during this time, after many customers requested a vegetarian offering.

The roots of Aunt Gee’s Gourmet Sauces can be found in Gladys’ motherland of Ghana, where a traditional sauce known as ‘shitto’ is eaten as a dip with meals and snacks. Shitto is a street-food favourite and a staple on the menus of upmarket restaurant throughout Ghana. The Aunt Gee’s sauce range is just as versatile and can be eaten with many dishes.

Gladys and Jacqui are building on their retail success and inviting foodies from all over London to their fantastic new event. September 25, 2017 will see the first in a series of extraordinary social dining experiences. The Aunt Gee’s Gourmet Grub Club will showcase traditional and contemporary British-Ghanaian dishes with an Aunt Gee’s twist.

This first grub club event will take place at popular theatre pub, Ye Olde Rose & Crown in Walthamstow, east London. Guests will be taken on a culinary ride as a full-course meal is served by the makers of Aunt Gee’s Gourmet Sauces in this true celebration of British-Ghanaian food and a fusion of cultures. Promising to be a downright feel good time, the Gourmet Grub Club will fuse these elements together with sounds of Ghana in the 1970s.

Organisers want the grub club “to be more than just a meal; it has been designed to be a unique experience of the wonders of British-Ghanaian cuisine to all diners.”

The monthly meet-up is not only a merge of classic dishes with modern styles, but is also an opportunity for visitors to experience dishes that best complement the sauces. The Aunt Gee’s Gourmet Grub Club welcomes and guarantees visitors an evening of food, music and lasting enjoyment!
