New direction for Miss Caribbean UK

CELEBRATING BEAUTY: Miss Caribbean UK 2017 finalists

THE FOUNDERS of the Miss Caribbean UK (MCUK) beauty pageant have told The Voice that they want the event to evolve over the next few years, steering it towards a showcase that celebrates multiple facets of West Indies culture.

Now in its fourth year, MCUK has been buoyed by the feedback it has received from attendees in previous years, but aims to build upon the success so far, giving ladies all across the UK the opportunity to express themselves as never before.

“We have used the MCUK brand to connect communities both socially and economically,” says Clayton Brown. “We are seeking to make Miss Caribbean UK a focal point, to not only showcase the beauty and intellect of Caribbean UK lades, but also to be a vehicle for the entire Caribbean community to use in a positive way."

“To this end we have invited the commissioners of the Caribbean Consulates in the UK to attend and give a three-minute speech about their country. Many have taken up this opportunity, and we look forward to their attendance.”

Miss Caribbean United Kingdom was set up as an event to promote all the different Caribbean countries under one umbrella. The event uses a pageant to promote, educate, inspire and celebrate the historical and cultural impact of the Carib- bean within the United Kingdom.

This year’s event is set to take place at the Grade II-listed Broadway Theatre in London on November 25.
