New year, new start for Daddy Ernie

MOVING ON: Daddy Ernie

FORMER CHOICE FM radio presenter Daddy Ernie will start his new job at Vibes FM station from next week.

The radio DJ was axed by Choice FM - Britain’s first black radio station, licensed specifically to cater to African Caribbean audiences – after it was renamed Capital XTRA as part of a major rebranding exercise in October.

Daddy Ernie will now present his well-known Superjam show on the internet radio station Vibes FM from next week Monday (Jan 6).

On New Year’s Day the DJ tweeted: “New journey begins on Vibesfm.net from Mon 6th, lets go again and support our own or we will lose it.”

After the announcement of Choice FM’s demise in October 2013, Daddy Ernie said in a tweet: “From the news about Choice Emerged at midday London has been crying. Don't worry we move on. The phone hasn't stop ringing.”

He added: “Just to let you the public who has supported Superjam for 24yrs as from today I will no longer be part of Capital Xtra moving forward. Shame”.

In a statement, Daddy Ernie also said: “Choice FM, now Capital XTRA's, decision is one, which I believe does a disservice to its loyal listeners and will have long-lasting ramifications for reggae, dancehall, and other black music in this country.”

Since the re-launch, listeners have taken to social media to complain about the new station's playlist, which included songs from pop stars including Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift.
