DECEASED: Goldie died after arriving back in Nigeria from the US
A POPULAR Nigerian singer Susan Oluwabimpe Filani has died following a brief complaint of a headache.
Filani, popularly known as Goldie Harvey, died shortly after arriving in Nigeria from the Grammy Awards last night (February 14).
The Skibobo singer died at the Reddington hospital in Victoria Island, Lagos, having complained of a severe headache on the day she arrived back in Nigeria from the United States where she attended the music awards ceremony.
Messages from dismayed fans began to flood her Twitter and Facebook page, many curious to find out what had happened to the 31-year-old who had been posting on the social media sites hours before her death.
An administrator of her Twitter account confirmed her death, saying it “is with heavy heart that I have to inform you all that Goldie passed this night shortly after arriving in Lagos.”
Her record label, Kennis Music CEO, Kenny Ogungbe later released a statement confirming that the body of the former Big Brother Africa housemate had been taken to the local mortuary.
He said: “She was rushed from her Park View, Ikoyi, Lagos residence to her hospital… where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival at exactly 7.30pm.
“We consider this period a gloomy moment for us and the entire Nigerian music industry in view of the circumstance in which she passed away; the abundance of talent she exhibited in her short but eventful music career and the various opportunities her trip to the United States of America would have availed her.
“We deeply sympathise with her family and fans all over the world and very grateful to all and sundry, especially, the vibrant Nigerian media for their concern and prompt reportage. We shall keep everybody informed as events unfold as we are devastated by the sudden loss”, Ogungbe added.
Goldie is survived by her father, step- mother, and siblings.
