Nine year old in the swing

WITH THE career of Tiger Woods almost over, there’s a youngster seemingly set for his own golf success.

Young Tyrese Danso, nine, recently won the outstanding performance gong and a second place finish at the US Kids Italian Venice Open at Golf Club Della Montecchia, North Italy. The talented youngster competed in the nine years of age category and shot a solid 74 (2 over par) opening first round which left him in fifth place.

He turned up the heat in the second round and it was a real battle for the top place between himself and another extremely talented player from the Netherlands, who was already one shot ahead going into the round.

They both went toe to toe, hole by hole with a dazzling display of outstanding golf. As Danso stepped on to the 17th tee (par 3) 114 yards, there was a bit of deliberation on club selection with his dad who doubles as his caddie. Dad suggested he use a nine iron as he used in practice in round one, but Danso insisted on using the eight iron this time round.

It proved to be the perfect club choice because as Danso hit his shot approximately a yard to the left of the flag, just five yards shy of the pin, it started to take a gentle B-line for the hole and eventually dropped in for an amazing hole in one!

After all the excitement, Danso composed himself in a truly professional manner and followed up the hole in one with a birdie on the 18th hole which eventually ensured that he was in contention for a top place finish.

Danso shot a fantastic five under par round which propelled him into tied second place with his Netherlands opponent. This top finish has now qualified him for the 2018 US Kids World Championship in Pinehurst, America.
