Norwich hire Hughton

NEW ROLE: Hughton

PREMIER LEAGUE side Norwich City have appointed Chris Hughton as their new manager at the club.

Earlier in the week, Hughton was given permission by Birmingham City to speak with the Canaries about their vacant managerial role following Paul Lambert leaving for Aston Villa on June 2.

Hughton, 53, has also previously managed Newcastle United and it was at the Sports Direct Arena where he first rose to prominence.

After being relegated the Championship in 2009, Hughton led Newcastle to promotion with a record breaking points tally of 102.

However, the former Republic of Ireland and Tottenham Hotspur defender was surprisingly fired on December 2010 while the Magpies were 11th in the Premier League table.

Hughton then took charge of Birmingham City on June 2011 and the Blues narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League.

Three of Hughton's managerial staff at St Andrews will join him at Norwich.

Having gained two consecutive promotions, Norwich ended this season in 12th place in the Premier League.
